Fed: Logie award winners = 14
Network Ten has won the Logie for most outstanding sports broadcast for its coverage
of the 2003 Bob Jane T-Mart 1000 touring car race.
The presenter of the coverage of the annual Bathurst touring car race, Bill Woods,
dedicated the win to former Ten Network commentator and former world motorcycle racing
champion Barry Sheene, who died earlier this year after a six-month battle with cancer.
"There was a great man who was a major power in the world of motorsport and he did
so much to enhance our coverage over the many years on Network Ten and he became a very
good friend of mine in the course of all those telecasts," Woods said.
"He didn't quite make it to this one and he didn't make it to the grand prix, but he
managed to watch from hospital, before he passed away, the grand prix coverage.
"That man, of course, was Barry Sheene."
