Vic: Concern over Salvos plans to close aged care homes=2
Seven of the centres are in Victoria, and overall 2,390 beds will be sold.
Burns Bridge/KPMG will manage the sale of the centres, with a condition of sale including
the transfer of existing residents' accommodation rights and the maximum retention of
existing staff.
The Salvation Army will retain and develop the James Barker House in Melbourne, Barrington
Lodge in Hobart, Linsell Lodge in Adelaide and Seaforth Gardens in Perth.
The Salvation Army management is informing staff of its plans now.
Mr Jackson said the union was shocked the organisation was withdrawing from an area
of providing a service they believed was a core initiative.
"It may lead to a situation of a loss of a large number of beds in Victoria and across
Australia," he said.
"If there's no buyer, it's a possibility that they could just close."
Mr Jackson said about 100 staff were employed by the Salvation Army in Victoria, and
he was concerned about the impact on them and the residents.
