NSW: Sutherland district teachers to strike
SYDNEY, Aug 30 AAP - Public school teachers in Sutherland in Sydney's south will strike for
two hours this morning to protest the government's stalling on a new salary award.
President of the NSW Teachers Federation Sue Simpson said Sutherland teachers would strike
a week earlier than their colleagues around the state ahead of a NSW Cabinet meeting at
Sutherland District Trade Union club at Gymea from 9am.
The teachers will return to work at 11am.
Ms Simpson said the teachers were angry at the government's failure to deliver a new award
by the expiry of the old one on June 30.
"Teachers are fed up with the long list of excuses offered by the minister and the
department as to why they cannot negotiate on salaries," she said.
